Guessing the meaning from context is a fundamental strategy in reading in a foreign language. Read the abstracts and check your understanding of vocabulary using a dictionary. Take notes of unfamiliar words. Use a dedicated notebook or create flash cards (I use a cheap electronic app on my iPhone for this). The important thing is to have strategy to help you remember words in the long term!
