Media and everyday life

In my opinion, nowadays media are absolutely fundamental in our everyday life. We cannot imagine a life without Tv, radio, Internet and social media more in general.

First of all, our globalized society invites us to be informed of what happen in other part of the world.

Thanks to Internet and television we are able to know news from far  Countries just some minutes after something has occurred. Many critics believe that this is not something good as we are forced to hear about an event we do not want. They say that we are literally bombed by news and there is no opportunity to avoid it.

On the other hand, televion is also a good way to relax and  excape from routine. For instance, cartoons and TV series can tease your imagination and give you an half hour of rest. The problem, as usual, occurs when people, and in partular teenagers, become addicted do these kinds of programmes.

In last years, in particular, people are interested in  reality shows, such as Big brother. They appreciate the way competitors behave in this sort of social experiment. Sometimes, mainly young people think that these behaviour are also possible in everyday and real life and they act like TV stars.

As for radio, while in the past it was the most spread media, in particular in Europe during the Second World War, now it has almost completely lost its aim to spread news. Today, commercial radios are, in fact, the means to convey advertisements and songs’ promotion. For these reason, fewer and fewer people listen to them except when they are driving or doing chores. After all, thanks to Internet you can choose time after time the song you want to listen, without waiting for the one they broadcast.

Finally, regardind social media, they are becoming more and more important not only to keep in touch with friends and share photos, status and ideas, but also as a political and social means. It is known, in fact, that the Arab revolutions in 2011 were possible thanks to Facebook contribute, through which people from distant part of the same country could start their protests at the same time. Nowadays they are also used in war countries such as Syria or Lybia in order to protect the cultural heritage. Young people communicate and organize their guard duties to prevent raids and destructions.
