The cat's tongue and other mysteries of animal movement
David Hu
Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Biology, Georgia Tech USA
In this talk, I will show high-speed and time-lapse videos of animal movement. Cat's groom using scooped-shaped spines that inspired us to design a 3D-printed cat-inspired hairbrush. Dogs shake at 12 times earth's gravity, releasing 70 percent of the water on their fur in less than a second. Startup companies are raising black soldier fly larvae, whose hordes can eat a pizza in two hours, and are a promising way to solve the problem of food waste. A routine diaper change at home led to my winning the Ig Nobel Prize for showing how long an elephant takes to urinate.
