One typical festival, which is celebrated in Rome, is the Italian Republic Holiday. It is on the 2nd June and it remembers the day of institutional referendum of 1946, in which Italian people chose between republic and monarchy. Republic won with 54,3% of votes. The main celebration is located in Rome, the capital of Italy and it consists in the solemn flag-raising to Altar of the Fatherland and the tribute to the Unknown Soldier with a deposition of a wreath by the President of Republic with the highest officies of state. After the performance of the anthem of Mameli, the tricolor arrows cross the sky of Rome. Then along Via dei Fori Imperiali there is the military parade. In the afternoon gardens of the Quirinale palace open to the public and there are musical performances of the band of Italian Army and not only. The Italian Republic Holiday is an important symbol of our country, that remembers the universal suffrage, the first time in which women also expressed their vote.
