It would need a rigorous discourse to speak about the importance of human mind, body and soul. From a pragmatic point of view, for example, soul doesn’t exist; so I prefer dealing with the relationship between the corporeal part of the man and the part which concerns his thought.

In the Ancient Roman-Greek age, as it has already been said, a popular school of thought claimed the balance between mind and body: nevertheless we have to consider that the role of the body in a period of low life expectancy and low scientific knowledge was fundamental for that type of society.

Today we live in a society characterized by a full technology progress and our body is helped everyday by sophisticated means of transport and advanced medicines. On the other side, mind remains the crucial means we have to advance in the society and relate to other people, expressing ourselves.

However the progress can produce also negative effects; in Western societies, for example, millions of people suffer from obesity and don’t take care of their body, causing a common alarm about the general health: several governments have responded with laws on the sale of foods, in particular as concerns what is eaten mostly by children.

Anyhow, my preference is to the mind: we are our mind and we must take care of it, naturally respecting the body.
