DETTAGLI:

Dear Students,

The Simons Foundation is accepting applications from undergraduate students for the Simons Foundation Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Neuroscience (SURFiN) Program. The goal of the SURFiN Program is to spark and sustain interest in neuroscience among undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds underrepresented in neuroscience research. This year, one of our lab opportunities is located in your city!

Deadline for applications and letters of recommendation is: May 4, 2023.

Details:

  • ProgramThe SURFiN Program provides funds for undergraduate research assistants (fellows) to work in-person in Simons Foundation-supported neuroscience laboratories during the 2023-2024 academic year. SURFiN fellows receive a commitment of $25 USD per hour wage for 10 hours per week over 30 weeks. Fellows and mentors (early career scientists) also connect with our scientific community through virtual and in-person community-building activities.
  • Lab Opportunities: Applicants must live within a reasonable commute of a SURFiN lab opportunity. This year’s opportunities are located in almost 30 cities across the U.S., Canada and Europe, including your city!
  • Informational Session: Interested undergraduate students are encouraged to watch a recording of the virtual informational webinar
  • Eligibility: The SURFiN Program is open to undergraduate students who identify as one of the following: women, individuals who are Black or African American, Hispanic or Latine or Native American or American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and other Pacific Islanders, individuals with disabilities and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Individuals identifying as LGBTQIA+ within the above listed communities are encouraged to apply. Prior laboratory experience is not required.
  • More information: Detailed information, eligibility criteria and application instructions are available here.
  • The program is offered through the Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI) and Simons Collaboration on the Global Brain (SCGB) and Simons Collaboration on Plasticity and the Aging Brain (SCPAB).

Through programs like SURFiN, the Simons Foundation and our scientific community aims to expand access to research experiences, support early career scientists in advancing in their careers, and work to create a more inclusive research training environment.

Please forward this request for applications to undergraduate students. Contact SURFiN@simonsfoundation.org with questions about the program.
