The course Affective Neuroscience Across the Lifespan consists of 3 Type-A credits (24 hours) for the lectures and 3 Type-B credits (36 hours) for tutor-guided project. The general objective of the course is the acquisition of knowledge on: a) emotion causation: theories and approaches, b) methods and measures used in emotion science c) the neural circuits for emotion processes and changes across the lifespan, d) emotion functions, e) different types of emotion, f) emotion and cognition, g) emotion regulation, h) gender and cultural differences in emotion, i) the neural circuits involved in the expression and coding of emotion.
The specific objectives of the course are: a) to define “emotion” b) to describe the determinants of an emotion, c) to identify the antecedents of an emotion, d) to explain the elicitation process of an emotion, the neural circuits involved, and the changes occurring across the lifespan e) to distinguish emotion from other affective phenomena, f) to predict the interactions between emotion and cognition, g) to select measures for assessing emotion, h) to justify using one measure over another, i) to explain the limitations and strengths of each measure in relation to the component of emotion that intends to index, l) to describe the emotion regulation strategies, i) to explain the neural circuits involved in the expression and coding of emotion.
