The course aims to provide students with knowledge of sustainable applications for addressing contemporary environmental problems and challenges in the pharmaceutical and agro-food industries. By the end of the course, students will be able to critically analyze industrial processes in the food, pharmaceutical, and biotechnological sectors, evaluating their efficiency and environmental impact using sustainability indicators (such as atom economy, E-factor, and energy intensity). They will apply the principles of green chemistry and sustainable engineering to propose improvements to existing processes, select green solvents and catalysts, and utilize biomass and innovative technologies (biotechnological and physical) to design low-impact processes.
