The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge regarding the quantitative and qualitative characterization of groundwater for human consumption. Specifically, it aims to provide students with knowledge of the most established methodologies for the quantitative assessment of the availability of groundwater resources for human use, as well as their qualitative properties, relevant for drinking purposes.
Specific Targets:
· Application of the main formulas for estimating potential and actual evapotranspiration
· Evaluation of annual groundwater recharge using the inverse hydrogeological water balance
· Aquifers classification and piezometric surface
· Groundwater resources quantitative characterization
· Groundwater resources qualitative characterization for human purposes
· Well pumping test and estimation of aquifer hydrodynamic parameters
· Coastal aquifers characterization and management and potential seawater intrusion phenomena
