The field of contemporary art is a dynamic and evolving ecosystem, increasingly intersecting with disciplines outside traditional cultural spaces—including agriculture.
The first part of the course will focus on understand key movements and practices at the intersection of art and landscape. Exploring site-specificity and the social, ecological, and political dimensions of land-based art.
The second part the course explores the intersection of contemporary art and agriculture, focusing on how artists engage with land, food systems, and rural environments. Through lectures, readings, discussions, and creative projects, students will investigate how artistic practices—ranging from Land Art to community gardens and performative interventions—challenge and reframe our understanding of agriculture as not only a productive but also a cultural and political act. The course emphasizes site-specificity, ecological awareness, and social engagement.
