This course introduces the student to sociological and interdisciplinary approaches to culture, gender, and media. Each of the three fields is first introduced in light of critical sociological accounts, and then intersections of the three are considered in light of both empirical examples and scholarly studies. Through various current and historical examples, the student learns to think of different cultural phenomena critically, understands the complexity and multiplicity of genders and sexualities, and is able to reflect upon the significance of different media for cultural and gender presentations and representations.
This is a 1st year undergraduate course, in Global Humanities programme. The course is openĀ for all, including exchange students.
