L'obiettivo principale dell'insegnamento è fornire conoscenze e competenze su metodi di ricerca e tecniche analitiche nel campo delle Scienze fisiche applicate allo studio del patrimonio archivistico e librario. Nello specifico, verranno trattate le principali tecniche di imaging e di spettroscopia impiegate per l'indagine dei materiali costitutivi e delle tecniche di realizzazione di manoscritti e stampati antichi, nonché i principi fisici alla base del loro funzionamento. Le conoscenze degli argomenti verranno acquisite tramite lezioni frontali, lettura di articoli scientifici, analisi di casi di studio. Al termine del corso le studentesse e gli studenti avranno gli strumenti necessari per: redigere un progetto di indagine, individuando le opportune metodologie di analisi strumentali, con particolare riferimento a quelle non-invasive e applicabili in situ; analizzare in maniera critica i dati strumentali, anche alla luce delle conoscenze acquisite nell'ambito dei vari insegnamenti del corso di laurea.

The main objective of the course is to provide knowledge and skills on research methods and analytical techniques in the field of physical sciences applied to the study of archival and book heritage. Specifically, the main imaging and spectroscopic techniques used for the investigation of the constituent materials and manufacturing techniques of ancient manuscripts and printed books will be treated, as well as the physical principles underlying their functioning. The knowledge of the topics will be acquired through lectures, reading of scientific articles, analysis of case studies. At the end of the course, students will acquire necessary tools for: draw up an investigation project, identifying the appropriate analytical methodologies, with particular reference to the non-invasive and in situ usable techniques; critically analyse the instrumental data, also in the light of knowledges acquired in other classes of the degree course.
