The course consists of two modules:

Module 1: A FUNCTIONAL AND CORPUS-BASED APPROACH TO GRAMMAR AND LEXIS

Module 1 aims to explore the most recent linguistic theories, with particular regard to functional and corpus-based theories, and to use their potential to shed light on the ways in which grammar and lexis express and transmit values, identities and ideologies. The language practice with the language assistant is oriented towards the achievement of the C1+ level, according to the Common European Framework descriptors.

Module 2: THEORETICAL ISSUES IN TRANSLATION PRAXIS

Module 2 is aimed at developing students’: 1) awareness of how important knowledge of the main translation theories is in the decision-making processes of translation practice; 2) ability to identify translation issues, to apply the strategies and procedures necessary to solve them, and to describe and discuss the applied process; 3) mastery of research and documentation techniques and of the tools necessary both to analyze the source text and to identify translation solutions suitable for the production of a "competent" text.
