General objective:

The integrated course aims to promote knowledge of the fundamental elements of pathophysiology, functional and instrumental semeiotics, of the clinic and the principles of therapy of the main pathological pictures within the teaching of the individual modules that make up the integrated course. In particular, especially with regard to the role of the nurse, this component will focus on the characteristics of physiopathology and clinical management of care activities in the medical area.


Specific objectives:

At the end of the course, the student must be able to draw up a care plan for a patient suffering from a pathology of the medical area; you must know how to correctly perform nursing techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of the main medical affections.


Contents of the modules:

Compared to clinical pictures (selected on the basis of epidemiological relevance and exemplarity of care)

chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure, stroke and neurological deficit patient, liver failure, acute and chronic renal failure:

• Identification of the care problems of patients suffering from acute or chronic internal diseases through a correct assessment

• Planning of nursing care according to the best available evidence, making use of the collaboration with other professionals

• Definition of the expected results from the assistance process

• Implementation of interventions by defining their priority

• Critical evaluation of the results of nursing care provided and readjust the planning

• Use of measurement methods (scales and / or tools) specific to the care frameworks treated

• The drugs most commonly used in the treatment of the proposed pathologies, their expected effects and the main side effects

• The support of the residual abilities of the person to promote adaptation to the limitations and alterations produced by the disease and the modification of lifestyles

• Patient and caregivers education through the promotion and development of self-care

• The risk factors that characterize the main clinical pictures of internal medicine and the factors triggering the exacerbation in chronic patients
