Objectives
and definition of urban forestry (urban forestry): limits and reference areas.
Historical-geographical development of urban forestry. Ecological
characteristics and cultivation of major trees and forests in Italy, with
special reference to the Mediterranean environment.
The eco-physiological interactions of trees and plants with the main
environmental factors of urban environment: light, temperature, water,
nutrients, air pollution, CO2; effect of the vegetation on the urban and
peri-urban areas.
Management of natural forests and woodlands in the urban environment and
protected areas. Planting and management of trees and forests.
Causes of fires in urban and peri-urban forestry. Combustion of biomass.
Fire prevention techniques and forecasting.
Ecological analysis of environmental degradation. Evaluation of noise and
degradation (analysis and forms) related to roads and other infrastructures,
urban settlements, industrial areas, mining, landfill, hydro-geological
instability of the slopes, coastal erosion, watershed management, fragmentation
of the natural environment, tourism, localized and diffuse pollution.
Ecological rehabilitation and recovery: objectives and methodology. The plant
material for urban forestry: reproduction, multiplication and improvement;
biotechnical characteristics of the plants; use of various herbaceous species,
shrubs and trees in the different types of intervention; selection of species
to be used.
Methods and techniques for rehabilitation and ecological recovery. Planning and
supervision of the restoration activity.
Applications to urban parks of the Lazio region.
