In this course the general
equations of fluid motion, both integral and differential, that result from the
conservation of mass principle and Newton’s second law (without considering the
thermodynamical aspects) will be obtained and discussed

It will imply to

• State the assumption upon which
the theory is based;

• Gain some tools (mathematics
and physics background)

• Apply the main principles to
solve simple practical problems in hydraulic systems as pipes and open
channels, possibly with the support of some software.

After the successful completion
of the course we expect that Students will be able to:

  • Qualitatively
    examine hydraulics phenomena (and simple systems) and frame them according to
    their kinematical/dynamical features;
  • Decide
    the model suitable to provide a ‘good’ approximation of the investigated
    situation;
  • Find
    a quantitative solutions i.e. calculate the values for the quantities needed to
    characterize the system.
